To be sure of your tickets, please book now.

One hundred years ago, Aleister Crowley received The Book of the Law in Cairo. Thelema is not something which suddenly appeared out of nowhere in April 1904. On the contrary: it arose from antecedents, and is a living, growing, dynamic current. On this special anniversary, there are some fundamental questions to be considered:

·  What is the essence of Thelema?

·  What is its significance?

·  How might it unfold and grow in the years ahead?

·  How might we anticipate and facilitate its development in our magical and mystical work?

Discussing these questions and much more, and celebrating the reception of The Book of the Law, the Conference takes place at the Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1 on Saturday, 10th April 2004, 10am - 8pm. Reflecting the diversity of Thelema and the force and fire of the Aeon of Horus, a variety of international speakers will be taking up the themes of the Conference. They include Martin Starr, Margaret Ingalls, Andrew Collins, Mary Hedger, Lionel Snell, Carl Abrahamsson, Christina Harrington, Mogg Morgan, and Michael Staley. The Conference will end with a discussion, involving speakers and audience, drawing conclusions from what we have heard during the day. A social event will follow later in the evening.

About the Speakers

Martin P. Starr  is an author and lecturer whose research focus is the history of Western Esotericism, with particular interest in Freemasonry, Theosophy and Thelema and related movements. He is the editor of the Teitan Press series of works by Aleister Crowley and is the author of The Unknown God: W. T. Smith and the Thelemites (2003), the premier biographical study of Crowley's contemporary followers in North America, told through the life of their de facto leader, Wilfred Talbot Smith. Martin is 44 and resides in Chicago where he is active in the Caxton Club and  fraternal bodies too numerous to mention by name. The title of Martin’s talk is A Hundred Years Hence: Visions of a Thelemic Future.

Nema / Margaret Ingalls discovered Thelema in the writings of Aleister Crowley about three decades ago. Since then, she's written Maat Magick: a Guide to Self-Initiation; The Way of Mystery: Magick, Mysticism & Self-Transcendence; The Priesthood: Parameters and

Responsibilities, and various magazine articles. She's a former member of the Typhonian O.T.O., an Initiate in Adi Nath Tantra, a High Priestess and Elder in the Church of Pantheist Wicca, and a co-founder of the Horus-Maat Lodge. She lives with her husband Mike, a mage and cellist,  in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains in Hocking County, Ohio. Nema has entitled her talk The Evolution of Maat Magick:  from Cornfields to Cyberspace.

Andrew Collins is an historical writer, and the author of several internationally acclaimed books on such subjects as the origins of angels, the greater antiquity of Egyptian civilisation and Plato's Atlantis as a memory of the Caribbean island of Cuba. He is also the founder of the psychic questing movement, and has held a special interest in the life and magick of Aleister Crowley for 25 years. Aged 47, Andrew lives in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, with his wife Sue. Andrew will be speaking on The Spirit of Aleister Crowley – accessible or not?

Michael Staley  is a prominent member of the Typhonian O.T.O., founder and editor of the magical journal Starfire, and director of Starfire Publishing Ltd. He will be speaking on The Book of the Law: The Letter Killeth, But the Spirit Giveth Life. One hundred years on, it is surely time for the dynamism at the heart of The Book of the Law to emerge from the trappings of Crowleyanity.

Mary Hedger is the author of two Thelemic novels: History of Fun, Book 1 and the second volume Occult High, due to be published by Mandrake of Oxford on the day of this Conference, April 10th. She will be speaking together with Mogg Morgan on Sex Magick Since Crowley.

Lionel Snell  is a senior member of the Caliphate O.T.O. and a long-time junior in the IOT. He is better known as Ramsey Dukes, explorer of ideas and writer on magic and rationalism. His early writings did much to encourage interest in Austin Spare and were an important influence on the chaos magic current. He was born in 1945, studied pure mathematics (and Crowley) at Cambridge, earns a little money as a freelance writer and publishes his own books under the imprint The Mouse That Spins. Lionel will be speaking on Information Assault In The Digital Aeon - all numbers are infinite and every man and every woman is a star.

Carl Abrahamsson was born in Stockholm in 1966. His training ground was in the Temple of Psychic Youth and the Church of Satan, and he has been a member of the Caliphate O.T.O. since 1989. He has published the research journal The Fenris Wolf since 1988, has published Crowley and LaVey material in Swedish, and also directs the Institute of Comparative Magico-anthropology. Carl will be speaking on Thelema and Politics - can Thelema have a tangible effect without delving into a very sensitive area?

Christina Oakley Harrington is an historian of religion and magic with a doctorate from University College London, and is published by Oxford University Press. Nowadays she is to be found at Treadwells bookshop in Covent Garden, which specialises in the history of esoteric movements.
