Crumbling Answers to Crumbling Roads

In an open letter to local residents the Labour leader of Notts. County Council has justified the large Council Tax hike because they intend "protecting spending on repairing the roads" Yet every year since 1991 the Labour Council, against strong Liberal Democrat clearly costed opposition, has cut the annual Road repairs budget from expenditure of just under £10 million in 1991 to less than £2 million last. Not surprisingly the repairs needed have risen from £13 million to £35 million. So what "protection" is the County Council now offering? Answer: and extra £30,000 to spend over last year's budget! Still leaving a 94% shortfall in term's of the total maintenance needs.
