Roger Spooner realises that everyone has individual prescriptions and needs. We give each patient a full eye examination and test eyes not only for the level of vision but also for the health of the eye itself. We are dedicated to bringing you the latest innovations in lens types, materials and treatments. We will recommend the optimal solution for you and discuss upfront the cost of frames and lenses - without a hard sell.

As well as the large number of frames we have in the practices, the type of lens is obviously paramount to our patients. There are many different types of lens and lens material, and we will advise you on the one best suited to your needs.

Single vision lenses. These are the most frequently prescribed lenses, which can be used to correct short- or long-distance vision problems.

Bifocals. These lenses combine reading and distance corrections in a variety of styles although bifocals have largely been superseded by progressive lenses.

Progressive lenses. These lenses blend the two prescriptions together to give uninterrupted vision without the appearance of a line across the lens. They also cater for different distances, such as 'arm's length' distance.

We can offer a variety of lens material and will advise on the price and benefit of each option. Choose between standard lenses which are crafted from plastic and are lighter than glass, resulting in a more comfortable frame fit, or lenses which are lighter and thinner than the standard variety. These also have a higher UV absorbency than standard plastic lenses. You can get thin lenses for all glasses, making them particularly suitable for patients with higher prescriptions. Roger Spooner will also put special treatments on your lenses, to prevent scratching, to eliminate unwanted reflections, or to darken in daylight. These offer a protection against harmful UV rays and glare. Of course, we also sell a wide range of sunglasses, ranging from designer makes to more price-conscious options.
