Greenland 1998

In 1998 three of us who had been on the rescue team's expedition to Denali, Alaska decided that we want to venture further afield. After a bit of investigation we approached Paul Walker of Tangent Expeditions to enquire if we could make use of his services in organizing a private expedition to Arctic East Greenland.

Paul came down to North Wales and provided us with a fasinating presentation on the expeditions that Tangent Expeditions had organised. After a bit of discussion we decided that we would go along, with another expedition group, into the Rigyns Berg region, some 400km south-southwest of Constable Pynt.

The three of us at Constable Pynt with a trolley containing all of our kit. The rifle was provided to give us some protection against polar bears.
Unloading the Twin Otter at the landing site. We had kit and supplies for 7 people and 25 days. The kit was loaded into sledges and we went on to put up our camp a few hours skiing to the west of the landing site.
Camp 1 in all its splendor. The snow conditions did not lend for building solid walls but we did excavate a kitchen area to the left of the tents.
