Greenland 2000

Days 7 to 12

The images will link on to other pages, please click to see more images of the day!

Day 7: 5/6 June 2000

We left camp and cross a huge sastrugi field, with snow barriers of up to 1m in height. Hard work and it helped to cause the only blisters of the trip.

Day 8: 6/7 June 2000

On the edge! Above the drop we called the Cresta Run. A long pull up the glacier was meet with a 600m, 60 deg iceslope so we had to retrace our tracks and lost half a days travel!

Day 9: 8/9 June 2000

We bypassed the slopes of Cresta Run (visible in the background) and made our way through a narrow break in the mountains to a wonder hidden glacier, hugh bowls of soft snow and ice cover peaks.

Day 10: 9/10 June 2000

A day spent looking for the vital link down on the last major glacier and having a bit of a rest! We still skied over 16km though.

Day 11 10/11 June 2000

Descending to the main glacier that runs towards the Gunnsbjerg Fjeld mountains. It was cold and very icy under the skis.

Day 12 11/12 June 2000

Time to stop! Poor visibility, snow and the proximity of crevasse fields force an extended 48 hour stop!
