The Defence of Britain
The picture left, of Eckington Bridge, Worcestershire, seems gentle enough; yet in the foreground is a concrete base with a stainless steel pin, on which a mortar once swivelled - part of the defences of Britain in World War II.
Fifty years after the end of the War, the Defence of Britain Project was launched to record the remains of these defences, and volunteers have already recorded over 10,000 sites.
