At Barron & Partners we have been dealing with structural damage insurance claims for many years, both to domestic and commercial property.

Subsidence claims are a staple part of our work and have been for the last 25 years. Some of the local Hampshire soils are particularly prone to shrinkage or excessive swelling in extreme weather, which can lead to structural problems from subsidence of the foundations. In the last 10 years, some very dry summers, such as 1990 and 1995, caused this problem to become quite widespread and the number of claims made to insurance companies increased markedly. Insurance companies have Loss Adjusters to control the claims and most of Hampshire's leading Loss Adjusters have used us as their structural engineer. Since 1990 we estimate that we have assessed and repaired with over 500 properties (we haven't had time to count them!) that were suffering from subsidence.

Storm damage, either from wind or rain, is another area where Barron & Partners are able to offer experience and advice. The serious October storms of 1987 and 1990, plus more recently in 2000 have left swathes of devastation across the South of England. We are often able to react quickly to the needs of our Clients, which is important if property has been left apparently unsafe to live in and the owners are in temporary accommodation. We can prepare schemes quickly and therefore reduce the time and inconvenience suffered by the Client.

What we can do for you:

• A Structural Engineer's Report on the property - (invariably required by the Loss Adjuster) to assess the cause - see SERs for details.
• Design the remedial works to stop the damage becoming worse and repair what has already occurred.
• Oversee the remedial works, ensuring everything is finished to the Clients satisfaction and then issuing certification of completion.
