Conference Diary Andrew Reeves Wednesday 23rd September Today is the day I become a fully fledged member of the steward family, unfortunately this happens at 8.00am, no one can ever say the stewards are not dedicated or hardworking. I am put on to the front of house team and take my place on the door checking that the badges match the faces of the people carrying them, I am there until the 12.30pm and it was a great opportunity to meet all the MPs including the leader Paddy Ashdown, even if it is a brief "good morning". However today there was a down side in being a steward and that was the fact that I had to miss the education debate, but, I did catch the vote, and that is as important. I then prepared and sent press releases, this has been a busy week and much needed reporting and many of our policies affect my constituency, and the information has to be relayed. The majority of the afternoon I spent networking and catching up with people I met in Southport last year, for me the last twelve months have been hectic but also exciting in building up the Dartford constituency party. At 4.30pm I took my place in the main hall for the environment and transport debate, There were some exceptional speeches from members of the Parliamentary team, including Matthew Taylor MP and Norman Baker MP. There were some good reasons to accept the amendments and other good reasons not to. 6.10pm the environment and transport debate concluded and then I had a 50 yard dash to the DELGA campaigning meeting, this was well attended by the membership and Richard Allen MP, Evan Harris MP and The Earl Russell. Again there were great speeches and debate on the direction of our campaigning, this will take time for our new campaign to hit the people, but we are fighting for equality, not just an equal age of consent..
