Glossary of Terms and Phrases


Business Motion

A proposal to conduct the affairs of the Party in a particular way or to express an opinion on the way affairs have been conducted.

Business Amendment

A proposal to change a Business Motion.

Constitutional Amendment

A proposal to change the Constitution of the Party.

Consultative Session

A meeting where selected areas of policy or strategy are considered in greater depth than is possible in full debates.

Elected Representative

A person elected by a local party to represent them at Conference.

Emergency Motion

A proposal for debate on the subject of a specific recent development.

Emergency Amendment

An amendment to an Emergency Motion.

Federal Conference Committee (FCC)

The body responsible for organising and running the conference.

Federal Executive (FE)

The body responsible for directing, co-ordinating and implementing the work of the Party.

Federal Policy Committee (FPC)

The body responsible for initiating and developing policy proposals.

Policy Motion

A proposal to adopt a new policy or reaffirm an existing one. This can include endorsing an accompanying Policy Paper.

Policy Amendment

A proposal to change a Policy Motion.

Standing Orders

The rules by which conference debates are conducted.

Voting Member

A person who is entitled to vote at Conference.
