Return To NaPali patch

I play Unreal occasionally, but only offline. Patches are available from the Unreal Technology site but its not really worth upgrading unless you are one of the ones who either plays Unreal online and/or edits levels. Various other files are also available for the interested.  I can't remember the details regarding the NaPali patch. It was hard to find, so i've arranged a special mirror for it.

For those who want to run Unreal under Linux, there is a script over at openUT that attempts to get Unreal working under Linux using the UT engine. It works a lot better than trying to run Win32 Unreal under Wine (at least in my now distant experience), but is still a bit of a pain (for instance, loading/saving doesn't work, and some levels cause crashes). Bear in mind that it has been a LONG time since i last tried Unreal+Linux..

Win32 4.36 patch
Win32 4.26 patch (creative)
Win32 4.36 patch (nondelta)

Linux 4.36 installer
Linux 4.36 patch

Mac 4.36 patch

UT Bonus Pack 1 (UMod)
UT Bonus Pack 1 (tarball)
UT Bonus Pack 2 (UMod)
UT Bonus Pack 3 (UMod)
Inoxx map pack (UMod)
Inoxx map pack (zip)

UT is fairly backward compatible, so don't worry too much about cross-platform differences in version numbers. Apart from v4.36 servers (which only allows v4.32 or higher client to connect), all versions are compatible with each other.

Notes:
The Win32 nodelta patch (about 33mb) is for those who have odd versions that the (smaller) version of the installer chokes on. Not sure whats special about the Creative version.

The Linux installers require your Win95 UT CD.

Loki's Linux port of UT (haven't check v4.36 though) does not yet support UMods. I don't like the idea of UMods anyway (UT simply extracts them into your UT directory, unlike Q3 with .PK3s)

 Setting up Linux Unreal Tournament
Linux UT is now officially maintained by Loki Software, so the complex procedure that was here is now obsolete. Download the Linux 4.36 installer and run it (after changing file permissions, if necessary). It will ask for the Win95 UT CD. Other more general Linux details are on my Linux page.

Enabling Music
I'm not sure if this applies to the Loki versions of UT, but i'll keep it here anyway. The version of MikMod included with RedHat 6.1 works with UT, despite being a bit dated. All you need to do is edit ~/UnrealTournament/System/UnrealTournament.ini and change UseDigitalMusic=False to UseDigitalMusic=True and you should get music. Its not quite as fast (and frequent) when it comes to changing from one music track to another compared to the Win95 version, but the music itself comes out fine (this might be a problem with my version of MikMod though).

Sorting out the Mouse
This involves playing around with the SampleRate and Resolution options in the mouse section of you XF86Config file and your UT configuration files (see Act6, making the mouse work of of the getting-UT-Linux working mini-HOWTO), but DGA Mouse support should before long eliminate these problems. Sorting out the mouse is covered in (just about) more detail in the Linux section.
