Some Tips for Forwards and Backs
Produced by Keith Wishart / Ian Parsons 8.4.98
Forwards
- Always have a plan
- Always communicate that plan
- YOU must be listening for the start signal
- Get a good kick-off at the start
- Aim to get there first every time
- If you get beaten to the puck on the off, go over and look back - don't just surface
- Work in pairs
- Change direction into space for pick-up
- Don't pass square in front of a defender
- Swim fast at defenders
- Always (in attack) have a forward on the gully behind the defence
- Anticipate possibility of incoming puck and move into goal mouth
- Swim in diagonals and pass to support in centre
- Backtackling
- Swing / switch options
- Give options for passing and decoy passing
- Be in position - create the right triangle
- Stay down and cover your pass
- Don't be static in your position
- Keep on the move to create options and be difficult to mark - keep the opposition
guessing
- The player controlling the puck determines the position (so be aware)
- Efficient quick subbing is essential
Footnote - ask yourself throughout the game -Where
am I?
-Where should I best be?
Backs

making panic decisions
