The house, garden and wildlife

A few pictures of our surroundings and the wildlife that we share them with.

We are very fortunate to be able to live relatively rurally and have a reasonable size garden of just over an acre.

Our two cats have to share the garden with a wide variety of other animals including foxes, rabbits, squirrels, and rodents of every shape and form (including dormice). Despite my attempts at persuading (and dissuading) them the only rodent that the cats wont try to bring into the house and eat are the squirrels... of course it’s the squirrels that eat all of the nuts from my cobnut trees so they are the ones I wouldn’t be too sad to see kept in check...

We have a plentiful variety of birds visiting the garden and the feeders with swallows and martins that return each year to nest in various of the outbuildings.

Just a few are pictured here, the one group of birds that I really want to get photographs of are being decidedly elusive - we have a pair of Tawny Owls that we see most mornings and hear almost every evening plus various other owls that we see from time to time. Photographing them is a real challenge.
