Since
1984, in an effort to change the public perception of Freemasonry
as a secretive organisation, Grand Lodge has pursued and encouraged
a policy of openness. It has, amongst other exercises, consistently
advocated the use of Open Days at Masonic Centres as one method of
reversing the perception of secrecy and of better informing the local
community.
In
support of this policy,
the Provincial Grand Master, R.W.Bro. T. R. R. Richards,
has invited a number of the Assistant Provincial Grand Masters
to arrange 'Open Days' at suitable venues within the Province.
The Assistant Provincial Grand Master for the Chester District,
W.Bro. S. Clayton-Barker, P.A.G.D.C.,
has requested that the Provincial Reception Committee organise
an Open Day at Christleton , and expressed a hope that the brethren
of all Masonic Halls in the Chester District would participate
and support the occasion.
The
Deputy Provincial Grand Master
V.W.Bro. Cyril Acton, P.G.Swd.Br.
and the Assistant Provincial Grand Master
will support the event by their presence.
Broadly,
the intention is to invite members of the public,
in particular, the families and friends of Brethren,
to view our environment and at the same time endeavouring
to enlighten them as to the true concept
of Ancient Freemasonry and its work.
The format will include guided tours of the building
and lodge rooms, video presentations, a regalia display (all Orders),
informal discussion groups, information bureau's,
pamphlets, coffee and biscuits.
Admission
will be free
and details will be advertised in the local Press.
Chris
will be taking along a wide range of Masonic Regalia
and explaining its significance whilst I will take along a PC or 2,
to show the various methods of Masonic communication on the Internet.
We
look forward to seeing you there
on the 6th June.
And
what an excelent day it turned out to be.
We are still waiting to hear from the organisers for the official
report.
