Open Word XP Docs in just the one window

Fed up with Word XP opening windows all over your screen? Here’s how to go back to the old way!

If you’ve got Office XP, you’ll have noticed that Word no longer opens new documents in its own window, but spawns new windows for each document. Depending on how you like to work, that’s either a blessing or a blessed nuisance!

If you want to turn the spawning off, and get back to the way things used to be, here’s how.

  1. Click <Tools><options>

  2. Select the “View” tab

  3. Uncheck the “Windows in Taskbar” option

  4. Click OK

And that’s that! All your documents will now open in just the one window. If your already do (in previous versions) and you’d like loads of windows, simply make sure that the “Windows in Taskbar” option is checked.
