Church Road

Church Road stretches from Urmston Police Station past Chassen Road, Shawe Hall and the golf courses to St Michaels church in Flixton where it joins Flixton Road and becomes Carrington Road

Urmston Police station The Police Station is at the junction of Station Road and Church Road and is opposite Terry's Store
Approximately half way down Church Road is a short stretch of shops which include hardware, sub post office, diving equipment etc. Shops near the junction with Chassen Road
Shawe Hall Community centre Once Shaw Town was a hamlet between Flixton and Urmston and Shaw Hall was a medieval hall ( possibly manorial but might have been held by a wealthy freedman ) Later a Jacobean hall was built nearby which lasted until the 20th Century. Now the area name is kept by the sub-post office and the Shawe Hall Community Centre.
Church Road from Shawe Hall Beyond Shawe Hall the road returns to housing before reaching the golf courses and the farms
On the left of this picture is the William Wroe municipal golf course ( Named after a long-serving local councillor ) and on the right is the Flixton Golf Club with Beseeka Farm closest to the front Golf Clubs and farms
By St Michaels church Beyond the golf courses and the farms lie more modern housing before the old village of Flixton is reached with parts of St Michaels dating back to the 12th century or earlier and several 17th century houses still standing
The Church Inn public house - for some conveniently close to St Michael's church. Also close by is The Greyhound public house/restaurant St Michaels and the Church Inn
One of the older houses in the Village

Chassen Road

Chassen Road is the mid-way link between Church Road and Flixton Road. It contains Abbotsfield Park ( known to many as Chassen Park ) where The Beatles once performed and which hosts an annual steam gatherings occur each May Day holiday - there is a narrow gauge railway and the Manchester-Warrington line Chassen Road railway station too! More to follow!
