Bypass To Open Early
Although it was not scheduled to open
until spring next year, work on the Wainscott Northern Bypass from the A2 to the Four Elms
Roundabout and the Medway Tunnel has made good progress and it is now planned to open it
at the end of November!.
This is great news for the residents
of the Hoo peninsula as it will remove the bottlenecks at the A2 (Watling Street) and the
A226 (Gravesend Road). Access will also be provided to and from the M2 without the need to
drive through Strood and/or Rochester. Access from the B2000 (Lower Rochester Road to
Cliffe, Cliffe Woods and Cooling) will be to and from the A2 only, access to and from the
Medway Tunnel, Hoo and Grain will stay the same as now.
This was made possible by the Labour
run Rochester-Upon-Medway Council who came to the rescue when Kent County Council decided
to delay work for financial reasons. Medway Coucil are now planning to introduce further
improvements on the A228 towards Grain to make the entire route safer and provide road
capacity for the traffic needs of the peninsula - while continuing to ensure as much
freight as possible is taken off the road and full use is made of the rail link to Grain.
House

Like many families in Cliffe
Woods over recent years, Chris Fribbins and his familys house in Englefield Crescent
is being underpinned and they have had to move out for about 6 months while the works are
carried out. They hope to be back in February.
