The Management

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Headteachers have been told that they have a statutory duty to conduct a Risk Assessment for stress.

The HSE will be visiting schools to look at their Stress Risk Assessment Process.

To start with, all staff, or at least staff representatives, should be consulted about what their perception is of what the stressors are in the school.

Staff may be asked to complete a questionnaire.

The HSE has a questionnaire and heads have been given it. It looks like this:-

Once the causes of stress have been identified under each of the six standards, a Risk Assessment must be completed.

The form heads have been given to do this on looks like this:-

Finally,

Making sure things get better and not worse.

  • Make sure staff are consulted.
  • Make sure there is a process, not just a piece of paper.
  • Make sure issues get raised that need to be.
  • Make sure there are solutions which really will help, not make things worse.
  • Make sure genuine reviews take place.
Tell us about successes, we can disseminate them.

GOOD LUCK!
