John Illingworth, NUT National President 2001-2002, will talk about how teachers can protect their mental health.

Time: 5pm, with a buffet tea from 4.30pm

John was a head teacher before retiring because of stress related ill-health. Since then he has fought back, discussing the growing problem of mental ill-health amongst teachers on Radio 4 programmes “Today” and “OnThe Ropes”, and writing a booklet for teachers on tackling stress.

 The focus of the meeting will be a positive one: it’s about fighting back .
