Biking The Globe The final Chapter
Long time biking mates Alan Brown
and Martin Williams decided to take the motorcycle trip of a lifetime,
around the world, riding the wild and lesser travelled routes, this web
site is a record of there adventure which started in May 2005: Two mates, two bikes and a half
baked plan to travel 4 continents and over 30 countries. We had only 4
months prep time and were travelling without support. We were out there
alone and a little green, neither of us having ever ridden in the third
world before. In the end we crossed Africa, shipped our bikes to Brazil,
rode to the far south of Patagonia, up through Central America and into
the US. We reached the far north of Alaska and finally flew our bikes home
from Canada. In addition to some planes, trains
and boats we had covered 53,000 miles sitting on our bikes. We travelled
for 15 months, visited 34 countries, wore out at least 30 tyres and burnt
over 12,000 litres of fuel. We fell off countless times, survived one
major road accident, a bout of malaria and numerous doses of the squits. It was certainly the most amazing
experience of our lives and we even managed to raise a fair amount for the
children’s charity UNICEF.
The Send off:-
![]() Our general goals are to escape the rat race, experience some of the less explored parts of our diverse planet and live a little – legs astride our steel horses. Saddle up boys you’re in for the ride of your lives! We have been biking mates for almost ten years now and have the opportunity to do something that might change our lives forever – hopefully for the better. We plan to depart
sometime in May 2005 and travel through Europe, across the north, east
and south of Africa, fly over to South America, up through central and
North America to Canada and Alaska. From here things will depend on
time and money. We may head home or if the urge takes us we may fly to
Australia and come home through Asia, the Far East and Europe. |
