Chez Dr Jan - Line Dancing

Line Dancing

Oh bum, what a giveaway! OK, so I do line dancing every now and then. I can handle it :-) I've been line dancing every Wednesday for about a year or so now with the Big D Line Dancing Group. At the end of October 1998 I went, for the first time in my life, to Butlin's. It was a line dancing weekend and there were (allegedly) 8,000 people there. In Minehead - that's on the north-facing bit of coast just down a bit from Bristol. I went with a bunch of friends and some of the people from the Big D group, and we were all rather alarmed to discover that we didn't know any of the dances :-( Well, OK, just a few then :-)

It looks like some people take this thing far more seriously than I do. Although having said that I'm now the proud owner of a cowboy hat, some excellent boots (from the London Boot Company in the centre of Nottingham) and, erm, a tassel laden shirt. Oh gosh, that sounds just too sad, even to me :-) I had an excellent weekend, it has to be said. Yee-hah! ;-)

Line dancing update - Big D has stopped doing his Wednesday class :-( Now I go to Hayes on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead :-) And it looks like I shall be off to sunny Eastbourne for another line dancing weekend near the end of February. Did someone mention taking things too seriously?

Hey, Eastbourne was fantastic! I went with Amanda - we learned to line dance together - and we knew most of the dances and had a great time :-) We reckon we were actually dancing (not counting sitting down between dances) for at least 12 hours over the weekend. Fun and fitness, what more could you want?

Of course, the car broke down on the way back and we had to be piggy-backed all the way home on a big tow truck. Broken clutch cable, now fixed thank goodness :-)
