Loving Heavenly Father,

We pray for your world at this time of war.

Strengthen those who work for peace.

Give courage to those who strive to help the wounded and frightened.

Help us not to hate those who are different from us.

Let there be peace in the world, and let it begin with me.   Amen.

Spring - A Season of Change

It is wonderful to be in the country at this time of year, to see new life springing up all around us.  Shrubs that, a few weeks ago, looked quite dead, are now coming to life.  Every day, if we take time to look around us, we ca see change.

How many times have you heard someone say: ‘I hate change’ or, dare I ask, how many times have we said it ourselves?  ‘At Your Word, Lord’? - Who needs a renew programme?  I have to say that I was one of those who was less than enthusiastic!  I think that is because we tend to shy away from change.  We feel secure in familiar surroundings.  We hold up a notice saying: ‘Do not disturb!’  I remember once moving to a new parish and a parishioner saying: ‘I suppose you are going to make a lot of changes, Father?’  I replied, ‘Not necessarily but I am sure that there are things that we can improve’.  And so it is with us, whoever we are: the kind of priest I am; the kind of Religious, parent or grandparent, child or worker that one might be.  How many of us can say that there is nothing that needs to be changed, nothing that might be improved?  As we see the change that is going on around us with the coming of Spring, it is good that we celebrate the Passion, death and Resurrection of Our Lord, when God was reconciled to man, that we too need to be totally reconciled to God, to make a new beginning, to become better people.

There is indeed a great deal of good here.  Let each one of us however take every opportunity, though the Sacraments and through the ‘At Your Word, Lord’ programme, to grow stronger in faith, hope and love.

Wishing you every blessing this Holy Season and in the future!

                                                Sincerely,

                                                                        Fr Peter Maher

Please continue to pray for the implementation of the ‘At Your Word, Lord’ programme in our parish.  As we take the first preparatory steps in this journey, we pray that the programme will be a means of drawing us ever closer to Our Lord.  The words of our Mission Prayer best sum up all our hopes for spiriutal renewal in our community:

Father, Pour out your Spirit upon us, and grant us a new vision of your glory, a new experience of your power, a new faithfulness to your Word, and a new consecration to your service, that your love may grow among us, and your kingdom come, through Christ our Lord, Amen.
