At Your Word, Lord

Fish 'n' Chips  Season II groups were due to get together in April, but this has now been deferred to Saturday 8th May, at 7.30 for 8 pm at St John's School.  Anyone interested in hearing about these faith-sharing groups is most welcome to come along.  Please contact Jennifer Blanchfield if you would like to come.  The cost is £4 to include supper and a drink.

May 8th/9th  Every parish has been sent a video entitled 'Reaching Out', featuring  contributions from the Cardinal and the Bishop, who talk to us about why it is important to join in this initiative.  We hope to have the opportunity to view this at all masses on this weekend.

Bishop O'Brien will be meeting with core communities on 3rd June at London Colney.

Thank you   again to all who participated, particularly those who led or hosted groups, and indeed to all who attended.

Season III   is not as far away as you think!  In the autumn we will invite you to meet for a new 6-week session looking at 'Reaching Out' to others, and how we can share the Good News with those around us.

HELP!  Our parish core community needs help!  If you have enjoyed belonging to a small community and would like to be more involved in the organisation, please let us know.  It would involve occasional meetings and workshops, and a lot of prayer!!  There is the chance of being involved in inviting others and helping with publicity, planning liturgy, small communities etc.

New leaders would also be welcomed, to lead further groups in October.  Training is provided, and as much support as you need.  Why not consider it?

Serve the Lord with Gladness.

Come before Him, singing for joy!

Christian Aid Week - 9th to 15th May 2004

Each year the churches in Baldock co-operate to help Christian Aid by delivering envelopes to homes in the town, and collecting donations via these envelopes a few days later.  Last year £2,300 was raised in Baldock, of which £500 was contributed by the work of our parish volunteers.  We are looking for some new collectors this year, and hope to exceed last year’s fund-raising.

The roads allocated to us are: Anchor Rd, Byrd Walk, Downlands, Ivel Way, Limekiln Lane, Penfold Close, Providence Way, Pryor Rd, Salisbury Rd, South Close, South Rd, Turpins Way, Weavers Way, Westell Close, The Copse, Weston Way, Willian Way.

If you would like to help, please sign up for a road on the list at the back of the Church, and/or contact Margaret Darby. Thank You!

Churches Together in Baldock   All are welcome to a joint Churches Coffee Morning and ‘Bring and Buy’ Sale on Wednesday 12th May in Baldock’s Methodist Church, from 10 am to 12 noon.  There will be a talk during the morning about ‘Christian Aid’. Please do support this event.  We hope to see you there! (Proceeds to Christian Aid.)

Ascent - Glass Bottle ‘Silver Lining’ Appeal   Cash collected in the glass bottle at the back of the Church has, for the last 4 years, gone to the Fatima Mission in Zimbabwe.  Fr Peter, who leads this project, has now been sent to America for further work, and the Fatima Mission has been temporarily closed down.

From now on, therefore, it has been decided that the funds raised in this manner will now go to ‘Aid to the Church in Need’.  This organisation carries out very valuable work all over the work.  Leaflets about their work will be available shortly.

Please continue to give generously.  The Ascent Group would like to thank you for your tireless support for this Appeal.

Rita and Mike Tingle   We would like to thank all parishioners for the marvellous send-off on 18th April, and for the very generous gifts that were presented to us.  The Baldock photographs will adorn our new home in Bristol (when we move in) and the money will go towards a much-needed upgrade to our ancient computer!  As Father Norman said, it is not ‘Goodbye’ but ‘Farewell’, and we will no doubt return to Baldock on several occasions  in the future.
