Holy Trinity and
Extracts from Newsletter for October 2003
The Wembley Launch Mass on Friday 26th September was a most moving celebration. It had a variety of music and singing and, indeed, everything about it was so up-beat. To be present with 11,000 people and many religious and priests concelebrating was so joyful and inspiring!
Undoubtedly a key feature was the
Cardinal’s homily, in which he both encouraged us and challenged us to embrace
the ‘At Your Word, Lord’ programme. It was, for me, poignant to be reminded of
those words on the wall of the Church at the lakeside of
“The deeds and miracles of Jesus are not actions of the past.
Jesus is waiting for those who are still prepared to take risks, at His
Word,
Because
they trust His Word utterly.”
The Cardinal challenged us to emulate St Peter in our own lives, when he said: ‘At your word, Lord, we will let down the net’, by striving to commit ourselves ever more deeply to Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Some of you have joined the small
groups so that you can grow in prayer and faith together. For everyone who wishes it, there is the
daily Meditation and Prayer booklet, whose main theme is: ‘God, A Community of
Love’. The daily readings begin with a
series of readings from the Lord’s discourses to his apostles, given to us in
The Gospel of St John presents Jesus, the Word of God, as Wisdom who has come to all peoples. The prologue at the beginning of that Gospel presents Jesus as The Incarnate, Word of God. He is the image of the Father, so that seeing Him is the equivalent to seeing the Heavenly Father. No other person has ever made such a claim. This Incarnate word invites us to feed upon Him - My Flesh is food indeed and my blood is drink indeed - Our physical contact with Our Lord is in the Eucharistic Community of the living Church, which is the Body of Christ. In the Eucharist, through The Word, through the Incarnate Word, we are joined to one another and together united with Christ, as St John Chrysostom teaches and tells us.
So this ‘At Your Word, Lord’ programme seeks to deepen these truths and these realities
