NAS Diving with a Purpose (DWAP)
Dive Slate
The new NAS Diving with a Purpose Dive Slate is now available.
The slate is made from hardwearing, waterproof plastic with the Diving with a Purpose Form printed onto each side.
The DWAP Slate is 21 x 15cm (approx. A5 size), designed to be conveniently fitted into a BCD or drysuit pocket. The corners have been machined into smooth curves and a hole is provided in the top left hand corner for securing a pencil/carabina.
The DWAP slate is designed to help divers with initial recording activities on sites of archeological/historical interest. It prompts divers to look for and record particular details and provides space for a scale drawing. A 20cm scale is provided on the front of the slate as an aid to photography and producing a scale drawing.
There are also 12 numbered boxes provided under the heading of species, to record the marine biology in the area. For some geographical areas a list of species of particular interest to marine conservation groups is provided with the slate, in this way divers can add to marine species records as well as those for archaeology.
Divers are asked to make a fair copy of their completed dive slates (master provided with slate or available from NAS website) and return it to the NAS (address provided on slate). The relevant information will then be forwarded onto local and national databases for maritime archaeology and the appropriate marine conservation bodies.
Cost: £3.50 (NAS members), £5.00 (non-members)
