DAY 2: Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport - Tour of exhibits
DAY 3: Day 3: Diving out of Brighton on hardboat Spartacat (see www.spartacat.co.uk)
It is hoped (subject to successful application under the Protection of Wrecks Act) to dive the protected submarine wreck of Holland 5, circa 1905.

RESTRICTIONS: These wrecks are at 30m depth and participants will therefore be expected to be qualified and competent to dive to this depth.
Min qualification: BSAC Sports/PADI Advanced Openwater or equivalent. You will be expected to be "dived up" before being allowed to dive and competent at deploying a delayed SMB.
NAS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO STOP YOU DIVING IF YOU ARE NOT SUITABLY PREPARED FOR THIS DIVE.

Cost: These three day courses including diving will cost £199 per person and are limited to 10 places due to space on the boat.(NOT INCLUDING ACCOMMODATION). The 3 day options have now sold out - reserve list only.
There are an addition 2 places are available to attend just the first two days on the 10th-12th and 4 places left for the 15th-16th (without the diving) for £100.

NEW COURSE: British Naval Artillery from the Mary Rose to the Victory: A technological and historical background, Royal Artillery Museum, Woolwich
Part II Module: Research and IT
Saturday 10th December 2005
This one day course will provide a technological and historical framework of the artillery of the British Navy from the 16th to the early 19th century. Although it can be taken on its own it will be especially useful to those who have attended, or who are considering attending, the NAS Cannon Identification course.

It will cover the manufacture of all types of wrought iron, bronze and cast-iron artillery, their makers and founders, gun supply to the Navy, the changing nature of ships armaments over time, gunnery and tactics as well as a brief survey of wrecks of British ships and what their assemblages reveal.

The tutors will be Ruth Rhynas Brown and Robert Douglas Smith. Ruth has published extensively on British artillery, particularly from 1600-1820. Robert has concentrated on the early history of ordnance up to 1600, specializing in the production and use of wrought-iron guns. Cost: £80 to members / £95 to non-members. Contact NAS Training.
