NAS Part I: The NAS Certificate in foreshore and underwater archaeology

    The NAS Part I builds on the basic knowledge and practical skills introduced in the 'Introductory course.' The practical elements of the course will be held in a sheltered open water or on a foreshore site for non divers.

    Day 1

  • Project case study of, e.g. The 'Mary Rose'
  • Dating methods and site interpretation
  • Introduction to wreck recording techniques
  • Practical session using the wreck recording form
  • De-briefing session
Day 2
  • Introduction to 3-D survey programmes
  • Survey practical
  • Data processing using the 3-D survey software programme
  • Introduction to Finds Handling and the problems associated with waterlogged material
  • Finds handling workshop
  • Project logistics and safety
  • Introduction to the NAS Wreck Recording Project and other NAS Projects
