The work goes on ...
We may be just coming up to the election, but fellow residents still have problems that they need my help or advice with. This is still my top priority so I have continued to hold my twice-weekly advice sessions. If anyone would like to discuss any issues of concern with me in private then they can phone my office on 8288 0161 for further details.
Over the past four weeks, I have attended a number of public meetings and debates with all the major candidates, to discuss with residents important issues such as health, education, international issues, racial equality and pensions. Residents clearly want the opportunity to put candidates on the spot - which they have done successfully, with good humour and vigour.
As this is the second most marginal seat in the country I have been inundated with radio and TV journalists wanting interviews. They want to get an idea of what it is like out on the campaign trail - what the issues are on the doorstep and the mood of the electorate.
During the campaign, I have spoken to many parents at schools and pensioners in sheltered accommodation and in homes for the elderly. I have been out knocking on doors during the evening, meeting many more people. All my conversations back up what local people have told me during my four years as MP, that the key priorities for this election are the NHS, schools, tackling crime and pensions.
Thank you to everyone who has made me a cup of tea or taken the time just to come up and have a chat. Your kindness has made this campaign really enjoyable. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the thousands of residents I have met over the past four years. It has been an honour and a pleasure representing you all.
