Minutes of meetings of Thursday 3rd September in Edwards in Shepherds Bush and Wednesday 9th September 1998 in TC7 at 6:30pm : Present at Edwards: Martin Ayub, Neil Barron, Paul Garcia, Steve Mantz, Scott Crawford and Alan Whiston + Star Guest Richard from Reuters. This meeting was arranged at short notice to see if we should take any action as a result of recent large falls in the equities markets generally. These minutes are from memory a week later, so are necessarily hazy(!) We decided that it'd be a bad idea to sell any of our shares at this point, as we're really in this for the medium term at least, and we've all seen how we got burned selling out our Psion holding. Also, it's difficult to see where the market's going from here, making buying a tricky proposition. Alan's guest Richard - who is a former fund manager and now a presenter - looked over our portfolio and was kind enough not to laugh too hard. He provided us with quite a few ideas and suggestions. We left Edwards when it got too noisy and popped over to the Moon on the Green. Everyone enjoyed the informality of the meeting, so it looks likely there'll be more of these provided enough people turn up. Hopefully, we can then shorten the official monthly meeting. So, on with that meeting..
Present: Martin Ayub, Jenny Crossfield, John Ford, Neil Barron, Paul Garcia Today's prices are: Asda - 181, SFI - 150, Photobition - 217.5, JJB - 371.5, Delta - 139, Signet 35.75, Treats 64.5, Lynx - 182. No unit price was available due to a computer problem. (No, it's not that it doesn't deal in negative values!) John suggested buying into Dell the computer manufacturer. There are possible complications in buying US shares through our share dealing account. We'll look into this, but we agreed that Dell are a potential good buy. Neil presented a company called Triad, a computer software company. I had to return to work at that point, but I understand that no further decisions were made about buying or selling shares. The next regular meeting will be on Wednesday 14th October, at the usual location of TC7's conference room, at 6:30pm.
