- What is the main disadvantage of macro lenses ?
Answer Shallow depth of field
- With wide angle lenses, you should buy the widest angle that you can afford. True or
false ?
Answer The lesson text would indicate true, but practically,
there is a big gap between the 94º lenses and the full-frame fisheye lenses. I personally
find the fisheyes too wide for normal use, (the graduated blue background can be too
overdone) and would recommend use of a lens around the 90º point for optimum flexibility.
- What is the main use for a standard lens ?
Answer For macro photography, in conjunction with extension
tubes.
- The wider the angle of the lens, the greater the depth of field (given the same
aperture). True or false ?
Answer True
The narrower the angle of the lens, the
lesser the depth of field (given the same aperture). True or false ?
Answer True
The Nikon 60mm macro lens has a greater depth of field than the 105mm macro lens (given
the same aperture). True or false ?
Answer True, but false when used for macro! Depth of field
varies according to the magnification of the image on the film. Both the 60mm and 105mm
will go down to 1:1 ratios, and so the depth of field will be identical at the same
magnification and aperture.
Are wide-angle zooms to be avoided ?
Answer Absolutely not. The Nikon 20-35mm lens is excellent (but
very expensive), and this and other wide angle zooms (the Sigma 18-35mm lens amongst
others) can prove to be very flexible.
