Some Brief Details and Particulars of Starport 17

The Maquis, in their present form, come into existance in late 2370. Before then there were occasional terrorist actions committed 'for humanity', but it wasn't until Benjamin Sisko united the various factions with his actions at Terak Nor (and the second confirmed Crossover) that the Maquis began to be seen as a real nuisance.

Most planets and star ports have Maquis groups, generally living in the lower decks and the slave quarters where Alliance guards seldom go and support for rebellion easy to find. If they do venture down there, they seldom return.

Although most Maquis are human, there are also some Vulcans and a handful of other races involved. Some of the 'Vulcans' are thought to be the survivors of the Romulan Star Empire, who were practically exterminated by the Terran Empire just before it fell to the Alliance. Few caitians are involved, those who are being generally of the Mikan - the Warrior Clan.

The sector 17 Maquis were lead by Kitanya, aided by James Boulay. They were finally achieving things, making it unsafe for Alliance ships to come near the star port when Boulay betrayed them to then Gul (now Legate) Norvek, Cardassian Governor of Sector 17.

There are also rumours of a second group fighting the Alliance, who are older (dating back to the destruction of the Romulan Empire and the surrender of the Gorn) but no-one has ever found solid evidence of them.

After the evacuation of the human population of the Starport aboard the hijackedbattleship Indomitable, new slave workers were installed to replace them, and with them the command structure of a new Maquis Cell arrived, led by First Technician Shona McLeod.
