Get an e-mail address for yourself

You normally get a e-mail address provided by the people who set up your internet connection. If they don't provide it, then there are many places on the internet where you can get one for free. Here are a couple of the better known ones:

Tell the party about your new e-mail address

Once you have an e-mail address, the most useful thing you can do politically with it is to tell the party about it. To start with, you should tell:

Tell your voters about your new e-mail address

If you are a candidate or campaigner, it's equally important to start telling your local voters about your new e-mail address. Include it on leaflets and publicity just as you would your telephone number. According to NOP, 10,900 UK adults go online every day, so more and more voters will expect to be able to find your e-mail address easily on your published material.

Start using mailing lists

Now that you have an e-mail address, you are ready to start using what is probably going to be the most powerful campaigning tool on the internet: the mailing list.
