Drawing on the talents of Alain Koch, Edith, Riff, Joan and Eric Cartier and the Ateliers
Stakhano, the
Council of Europe -
an international organisation of 38 European states -
has produced a strip-cartoon booklet (21x10 cm format, 56 pages), illustrating the themes of
the European Youth Campaign against Racism, Xenophobia, Anti-Semitism and Intolerance,
launched in the wake of the Vienna Summit of the Heads of State and Government in October
1993. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, and without any text, the five strips deal with the themes of the campaign in a manner designed to catch the imagination of mid-teens throughout Europe. Barbara Hendricks, the principal celebrity supporting the campaign, was in Angoulême to launch the series and award the prizes on Friday, 26 January 1996. The booklet is being distributed by the national committees for the campaign and the Human Rights Information Centre in Strasbourg.
