Etools First Time Installation

(1) Download etls109s.exe (about 2Mb).
(2) Run etls109s.exe. This will install v1.09 of EPS Tools (Electronic Punching System Tools). By default, etools is installed into directory c:\mercs and an icon is created in start\programs\orienteering.
(3) Note, if you wish to create new short cuts the command line is "c:\mercs\etools.exe -t" (do not include the quotes).
(4) You may now delete file etls109s.exe as it should no longer be needed.
(5) E-mail Michael Napier (mnapier at cix.co.uk) to register for notification of updates.

Etools Update

(1) Download etls113u.exe (about 84Kb). This file is a self-extracting zip files.
(If this download fails, go to Etools and select Update file, noting the version number, and continue the following instructions with 1.13/113 replaced by the appropriate version number.)
(2) Create a working directory (e.g. c:\temp).
(3) Copy etls113u.exe to c:\temp and run etls113u.exe. This creates file etools.exe v1.13. Copy this to c:\mercs to overwrite existing etools.exe.
(4) Delete c:\temp\etls113u.exe.
(5) If you have not already done so e-mail Michael Napier (mnapier at cix.co.uk) to register for notification of future updates.

Comments

Note, most of these comments apply to versions of OE200x prior to OE2003 v10

(1) ETOOLS will work with either semi-colon (;) or comma (,) as field separator.
(2) ETOOLS expects the header record to be

   "Stno;SI card;Database Id;Name;BY;
   Block;nc;Start;Finish;Time;Classifier;
   Club number;Name;City;Nat;Katnr;Short;
   Long;Num1;Num2;Num3;Text1;Text2;Text3;
   Street;Line2;Zip;City;Phone;Fax;EMail;
   Course no.;Course;km;Cm;Course controls;Pl".

(3) However, the header seems to change for every new version of OE200n.
(4) The header MUST begin with
"Stno;SI card;Database Id;Name;"
.
(5) The following alternative field names are acceptable:
   "YB" for "BY"
   "Cl. no" or "Cat. no." for "Katnr"
   "Club no" for "Club number".
(6) ETOOLS can still import even if the exact field names beyond "Name" are not quite correct, however the correct number, and position, of fields is essential.
(7) ETOOLS reads in the values for all fields. An assumption has been made about the type and range of some of the fields. The program may fail if a value is outside the assumed range. If this is the case contact Michael Napier or set the values of unused fields to blank.
(8) ETOOLS only uses the values from the following fields:
 Column  Field           Value
   3     Database Id     BOF No
   4 Name Name (ETOOLS attempts to split name into Forename and Surname)
   5     BY              Year of birth
   7     nc              Non competitive
   8     Start           Start time
   10    Time            Elapsed time
   14    City            Club abbreviation
   15    Nat             National abbreviation
   17    Short           Class
   34    km              Course length
   35    Cm              Course climb
   36 Course controls Number of controls on course
   37    Pl              Place
(9) If the time format is set to mmm:ss in the CSV file output by OE2000 and Excel is used to massage this file before input into ETOOLS, beware that fields "start" and "time", amongst others, may get corrupted by Excel. Values of the form "61:17" may get changed to "61:17:00". ETOOLS will pass these values to the GBR Ranking file unchanged and the file will be rejected by the BOF Ranking System. ETOOLS does not validate the values in the "start" and "time" fields.
