A planning application is shortly to be submitted for the Drill Hall in Seaford, the town's MP Norman Baker has been promised.
The news comes in an official response from the Defence Secretary Des Browne to a petition presented in the House of Commons last month by the local MP on behalf of Town Council leader Jon Freeman and others.
The MoD intend that the premises should be converted into seven flats, combined with a new improved hall for cadets.
Norman Baker says:
"I am pleased that at last the MoD is doing something about the Drill Hall which has been allowed to decay badly in recent years and has hardly been used at all. I will wait to see the detail but the principle of what the Ministry intends to do seems to me to be sensible.
"They will need to pay rather more attention to detail than they did in their official response to me, however, where they talk of 'Lewis Council' and 'Seaford Borough Council'."
