Local MP goes to Brussels to discuss new EU treaty

Local MP Norman Baker will travel to Brussels on Monday in order to discuss the ramifications of the proposed new EU treaty with a senior EU official. The official in question works for the committee of the European Parliament that is dealing with the new treaty, as well as the failed EU constitution.

Speaking on the issue, Norman said: "After receiving correspondence from constituents on the issue of the new EU treaty, I thought that it would be good to discuss my concerns with someone who has been at the heart of the process of drawing up the document.

"I aim to discover a) how much the new treaty differs from the proposed EU constitution, and b) what effects the new treaty will have on both my constituency, and the United Kingdom as a whole.

"When I return to my constituency, I will be writing to all of my constituents who have contacted me on the issue, so that they know what I have found out on their behalf."
