- Steve and Carole are both licensed Radio Amateurs. Carole has the call-sign G7HBV and ran a popular packet radio station for some years. Steve has the call-sign M3EQY and enjoys working DX on HF.
- Steve and Carole have an African Grey Parrot called "Jasper Parrot" who is now 12 years old and occasionally accompanies them on their boating trips.
