Why the "Pocket Website"? Simply because it fits on a floppy disk and can be put in the pocket! Originally this was just the means to transfer my bookmarks between different machines easily. But the target is always that the entire site will fit on a floppy.
So: no big images, no interactive presentations, and not visually the world's most enthralling website! But because it's almost entirely text based, with a few small images and modest use of tables, it should be fast to use. To compensate for lack of images, each section of the site has its own colour theme. Links are removed as well as added! Links with a date were added on that date; if the date is *starred it means it has been confirmed or updated.
What do I provide? Three things: a categorised index; and the first two of a series of "Pocket Guides": on the Year 2000. and on European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). The EMU guide has been dormant while Year 2000 builds up to its climax. More, I hope, as Y2K winds down. The Pocket Guide to Y2K will probably close down around the middle of 2000, all being well!
The Pocket Website is not trying to compete with bigger and better-maintained sites. It is not trying to be a comprehensive list of resources. It aims to include primarily sites which are good gateways to a range of other resources. It will always have a UK and European focus.
It has evolved and will continue to evolve. But if I waited for it to be perfect it would never get out there!
I'm not open to suggestions for new categories, but please mail me if you find broken links. The Pocket Website is maintained on a "best efforts" basis. I will try and fix errors, but this is a spare time occupation! To reduce the time spent, I normally only check presentation on Netscape Navigator (usually the latest release); if you are reporting a problem, please tell me if you're an Internet Explorer user.
This site is maintained on an Apple Macintosh computer.
