Consignia must guarantee service standards
Consignia’s
request to raise the price of a stamp by a penny should only be granted if they
give an unequivocal guarantee that they will maintain the current standard of
the postal service, said the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
Peter
Black, Assembly Member for South Wales West, commented “The London Government
should only agree to raise the price of a postage stamp by a penny if Consignia
offer an absolute guarantee that they will maintain the current universal
delivery system.
“The failure
of Consignia to manage their own finances and the lack of commitment from the
New Labour Government to a universal postal delivery service has resulted in
the customers facing continual price increases, post office closures and a
reduction in service provision.
“The London
Government needs to take a strong lead on this matter and give an unequivocal
commitment to maintain the standard of the current postal service.
“It is
the Government’s duty to all those who depend upon the service to invest enough
money in to Consignia to ensure that the post office network is retained in
Wales and throughout the UK.”
