Help needed in Waunarlwydd now says Liberal Democrat AM
Locally based Welsh Liberal Democrat AM
Peter Black today called for help for Waunarlwydd in the light of the latest
round of job cuts at Alcoa.
Mr. Black was responding to the news of
82 job losses at the Alcoa works in the area and the concerns of local
shopkeepers of a subsequent loss of trade. This latest announcement comes on
top of 38 job losses announced last November.
“It’s not just the jobs themselves,
though that’s bad enough” said Peter “there’s also the effect upon local
businesses and the community to consider. Waunarlwydd has already been hit by
previous job losses, and is in danger of becoming another one of New Labour’s
forgotten Swansea communities.”
“I have
written to the Economic Development Minister in the Welsh Assembly Government
asking him what he intends to do to support the community at this time.”
