Focus October 1998
"The Liberal Democrats exist to build
and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which
we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty,
equality and community, and in which no-one shall be
enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."
(Preamble to the Party Constitution).
Fewer
Lorries through Thurgarton and Southwell
A campaign by Liberal Democrat
Councillor Peter Harris has paid off. He has
written to a number of Transport Companies that
appeared to be sending lorries through Thurgarton
and Southwell as part of longer journeys. C&G
Concrete have now responded.
"Their transport manager
has written to all their drivers requiring them
to turn left from the gravel quarry along the
A612 rather than going through the village,"
reports Peter Harris. "This means that there
are now sixteen fewer large articulated lorries
travelling through Thurgarton every day. We hope
to use C&G Concrete's example to other
transport companies that do not have to use the
A612 as a through route."
