New Co-op
Supermarket on the Ropewalk, Southwell?
Following the July Edition of Focus
we received many comments about the plans for a new Co-op
Supermarket on the Ropewalk. Most comments were in support
of the plan, but there were a considerable number of concerns.
The Town Council has not objected to the plans after a very
close vote, 7 in support and 5 against with one abstention,
and one councillor prevented from voting because of the Code
of Practice for Councillors.
The Town Council has also asked the District Council to
impose conditions on any approval if the District agrees to the
plan. The conditions are intended to implement the promises
made by the Co-op
such as upgrading the pathway to the Ropewalk from Kings Street,
and keeping 'free' car parking at the current Co-op site.
The District Council, which actually decides Planning
Applications, will consider the plan in November.
If any resident wishes to comment on the plans or
suggest conditions to the plan if it is approved,
they should write to the Director of Planning, N&SDC,
FREEPOST, Kelham Hall, Newark NG23 5YT as soon as possible.
If you want to make any
representations to the Newark and Sherwood
District who decide planning applications. Please
write to the Director of Planning, N&SDC,
Freepost Kelham Hall, Newark Notts NG23 5BR. You
do not need a stamp.
You can e-mail from here.
