Focus October 1999

"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity."
(Preamble to the Party Constitution).

Local Involvement in Planning Decisions

Local Liberal Democrats have campaigned against the way that planning decisions at Kelham Hall appear to exclude local people.

Since the May elections, when no poliitical party won an overall majority of seats, Liberal Democrat councillors have been able to influence changes to planning decision making.

Now, instead of having secret site visits, with local people being asked to leave, all contentious plans will have a speaker from the local Parish or Town Council invited. All decisions will now be made in public without any political party 'whipping' allowed.
