A new Home for the Frail Elderly?

The County Council has now sold South Muskham Prebend, and is in the process of closing the Old Vicarage in Westhorpe, as reported earlier in Focus. Liberal Democrat councillors have argued strongly for continued County Council provision in the town.
However, the County Council has already sold the Archery Field for housing, and the only acceptable site for the Council and the Housing Association, Anchor Trust, is a site to the south of Caudwell House on the Upton Road.
Although not ideal because of its distance from the town, it is in fact exactly the same 0.7 miles from the Market Square as the Old Vicarage. Both Cen

Liberal Democrat councillors at County, District and Town level are now pressing for new facilities to replace Day and Respite Care for frail elderly people in Southwell, and are hoping to submit outline plans this month. The land at Caudwell House is the last available area, big enough and affordable [because the land is already in the County Council's ownership] in the town. Many local people are concerned that if rejected the County and District Councils will walk away from Southwell, with the excuse that they could not find an acceptable site.
Focus will report.

There has been a huge response to Edition 122 Focus petition about the 75p pension increase. Steve Webb, Lib Dem MP for Social Security who presented the 63,000 petition forms to the Chancellor has written to thank Southwell residents for their replies.

What pensioners would have received from the
Liberal Democrat Alternative Budget 2000

utwo pounds a week for pensioners under 75
ufive pounds a week for pensioners aged 75-80
useven pounds a week for pensioners aged over 80
uAND free TV licences for over 75 year olds
The pensions under Lib Dem proposals would be linked to a 'pensioner index' of those things that pensioners spend money on, so inflationary rises each year would increase pensions properly.
