LYSISTRATA
Greyfriars Kirk House, Edinburgh
August, 1990

Productions of Greek comedy tend either to be stultifyingly faithful or wetly modernised; it's rare to find a version that makes sense to contemporary viewers while retaining the humorous vigour of the original. Out To Play Theatre Company strike the happy medium by dint of updating some of the verbal gags but retaining Aristophanes' smut. In short, costume dildos and willy jokes abound. Risqué fun.
