AFTER the profound sense of national unity that swept this country after the death of the Princess of Wales, it is terribly sad to witness the spectacle of traders attempting to exploit Diana's memory with commemorative coins, medals, t-shirts, stamps, playing cards, keyrings, porcelain figures, china plates, car stickers and even, in one case, a Diana pizza.
What could be more tasteless than these quick-buck merchants producing tacky rubbish and then pretending that they are acting out of genuine sympathy with the late Princess?
That is why we at the Daily Gnome have decided to speak out against these "ghouls" who are quite literally "cashing in on grief".
The Daily Gnome will be mounting a campaign against these cynical rip-off merchants, beginning in today's 94-page "Queen of Hearts" special supplement, following up in tomorrow's 194-page "People's Princess" tribute issue, and then continuing in each of the 294-page editions of the Daily Gnome which we will be producing all this week and next.
