Another group of surfaces occurring in nature can be observed through the use of number and calculation - these surfaces can normally only be observed naturally, by implication and intuition and are usually referred to as having an irrational, chaotic characteristics. These surfaces are called fractals.

The title 'Surfaces' refers to small naturally occurring loci of textures, varying from static textures (rock surfaces), modulating surfaces (groups of leaves, lichen etc.) and dynamic surfaces (water and clouds).
