Miscellaneous GPL stuff

I'm not a setup artiste like Alison. I'm not a speeding Alien like Huttu. I'm no software guru like VROC's creator. And I'm certainly no web designer. But on a good day, with a head start, a following wind, and about six months' editing I can string a few sentences together which -- if you squint -- do a passable impression of something which might once have been quite funny... if you were drunk at the time. It's not much of a contribution to the GPL community, but it's mine (see disclaimer).

The first episode of Car Wars was scribbled in about May 1998, a short time after the GPL demo was released. It was inspired by my breaking 1:10 at Watkins Glen for the first time. If only we were all so easy to please now!

Car Bores 1

The second episode came over a year later, in mid 99. This time the inspiration was a guilt. Despite priding mydself on being a considerate driver <Yea, they all say that! :Ed> I'd just caused a really nasty T1 pile up, taking out most of the field. Working on this was my pennance!

Car Bores 2

It's now August 2000 and this time inspiration comes in the form of a race on VROC... this time one I actually finish! Racing neck and neck with good drivers is what this sim's all about, and after a particularly enjoyable race I was inspired to do some serious thinking about my Monza setup. After a few hours of taking it seriously rather than pretending to take it seriously, I dropped my average lap time from mid 1:29 to mid 1:28 and even made a few tentative steps into the 1:27s. Normal people would have a beer. Me, I fiddle around with this for two days...

Car Bores 3

Check back in about September 2001 when the next episode is scheduled ;-)
