A Brief Introduction to MDA
MDA Logo What is MDA?

Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is the newest initiative of the Object Management Group (OMG) which some say will become the standard approach for software projects. The OMG are also responsible for UML (Unified Modeling Language) and CORBA.

How does it Work?

In a nutshell, the idea of MDA is to create several UML models of the problem. Each model is pitched at a different level of abstraction and kept independent from the others so that lower level models (Middleware) can be replaced with newer technologies as they come along. The OMG think this type of architecture will have a lifetime of around 20 years.

Want to Know More?

The main source of information for all things MDA is the OMG's own Website. This is by far the best place to start looking if you're searching the Internet. The OMG are obviously pushing MDA quite hard which is good, but their Website does feel a little hyped up and sometimes it tends to get in the way of the useful information. The OMG's Website can be found at http://www.omg.org/mda.
