OMG Logo Who are the OMG?

The OMG are a not-for-profit software standards consortium that is dedicated to producing specifications for interoperable enterprise applications. It is based in the USA and is the largest software standards organization of its kind.

What do the OMG do?

Besides from the new MDA initative, the OMG are perhaps best known for the CORBA middleware standard which is a multi-platform, multi-language solution for systems integration.

Newer but well established OMG modeling standards include the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and the XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) which is the standard for storing and exchanging models using XML.

They have also developed the OMG IDL, IIOP, MOF, CWM, and OMA standards.
